Book Launch! Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Hey there everyone! I’ve been quiet on here because I was head down finishing up a time-sensitive BOOK with my wife, Nova. It’s called: Should I Stay or Should I Go? A step-by-step workbook to help you decide if leaving the US is right for you and it's available in a PDF download, paperback workbook via our site or from your local bookstore, and wherever you read e-books.

Why’d we write this book?

In the many years leading up to this transition, Nova and I were in an ongoing conversation about if we should leave the US, how we might do so, and what the real losses and opportunities might be if we did. About a year and a half ago, exhausted from trying to make sense of things while whispering in the front seat of the car and firing off texts with random curiosities and bits of information, we created visual tools to help us reflect together, hold our research, and ultimately, support our decision-making. As we were preparing to leave, we had conversations with so many of our friends and colleagues who were also inside this conversation in some form, and we heard how daunting and overwhelming the conversation is for so many other people as well.

What’s in the book?

  • Risk evaluation frameworks to help you assess different risks and opportunities within the current conditions.
  • Tools to help you identify and hold complexity without getting stuck.
  • Reflection prompts to help name priorities, acknowledge your feelings, and imagine possibilities.
  • Prompts to help you identify and name personal / familial thresholds for leaving.
  • Checklists and worksheets to help you keep track of your research and intentions.
  • Resources and supportive prompts to help you plan the best next-steps for this next season of life, no matter what answer you come to at the end of the workbook.
  • Warm & colorful designs.
  • Writing that combines storytelling with calm, grounded, get-shit-done instructions.

I wish we were living through different times and I hope this book can help accompany others who are considering if they want to leave the US, what their thresholds are, and where they might go if they had to leave. We hope the book helps people feel less alone in it. At the same time, we know it doesn’t seem possible for some people to leave, a lot of folks just don’t want to. You’re staying in your home. You’re fighting for your home. This book holds space for that, helps people reflect on what their life may be life if they stay, and clarify what they can and will do to make their stay-right-here life align with their priorities. Those who ultimately plan to root in place will, nonetheless, have more clarity about where they may go if they have to leave.

At the end of the workbook, we reference a number of resources to support people who have decided to make the transition, like relocation experts. We also share resources for experts in digital security or stay-in-place survival strategies. Thank you to all of you out there loving each other and fighting the good fight, wherever you are. We’re rooting for you and for all of us.

in the mess and the love,

Grover

If you’re considering leaving the US (even if flashes of “what if” or “I couldn’t!” cross your mind occasionally) my wife Nova and I wrote a book just for you.
